Maoist Communist Party of Italy (PCM) commemorative poster
April 25, 1945: Anti-Fascist Liberation Day in Italy. The Nazi occupation army surrenders and leaves Northern Italy after a general partisan insurrection by the Italian resistance movement; the fascist regime dissolves and Benito Mussolini tries to escape. Mussolini was captured and summarily executed near Lake Como by Italian partisans on April 28. His body was taken to Milan where it was hung upside down at a gas station for public viewing and to provide confirmation of his demise.
